I’d imagine this was on purpose, and I like it... although it would be more befitting of a 600 Grosser. I just watched the Jay Leno’s Garage video on this car and I really like it - there’s a majesty to old Mercs that a lot of cars (old or new) don’t have (the SL Pagoda is the other Merc that comes to mind).
